In His days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is His name whereby He shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS. (Jeremiah 23: 6, KJV.)

Hello Saint. Good evening, and a happy weekend! I’ll try to make this as short as possible. The above passage is a Messianic prophecy found in the Old Testament. As the context suggests, this prophecy is about the salvation, peace and safety to be enjoyed by the Israelite nation at the reign of the LORD Jesus Christ on earth during His millennial reign and beyond.

However, there’s something in that passage that concerns us all, the present day church, made up of Jews and Gentiles alike; that something is those last four words: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS!

The Bible says in Hebrews 13 verse 8: “Jesus CHRIST the same yesterday, and today, and forever. If that indeed is true, then the same Jesus who shall be called at that time ‘THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS’, is still today, our righteousness. A New Testament passage corroborates my argument:

For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD IN HIM. (2 Corinthians 5: 21, KJV. Capitalised emphasis is mine.)

Hello, who are the ‘us’ in the above passage? A preceding verse, precisely, verse 17 tells who – those people in Christ! Now, you see how this concerns us? By being in CHRIST, God’s Righteousness have now been conferred on us; therefore, we conclude, that we are righteous because we are in CHRIST, and not because of anything else! This being the case, IT IS THE LORD THAT IS OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS! Glory!

In the light of the above, I boldly say: ‘I am righteous because, the LORD is my righteousness!’. Can you say that with me?

I promised brevity. Let’s continue next time. I love you.
